Road Closure – Macs Reef Road

Palerang Council will shortly commence road works on Macs Reef Road. Deane’s Buslines have been consulted by Palerang Council and have been advised that part of Macs Reef Road between Bankers & Newington will be closed for approximately a 6 week period. Council estimates that the road closure will take effect from Monday 8th April 2013.

After consultation with Deane’s Buslines regarding the road closure, Council have scheduled the road closure during the school holiday period to help minimise the disruption to school bus services.

During the road closure period, a plan with Council has been put into place where the school buses will be escorted through the road closure site by a council escort vehicle. We expect that this plan will only have a minimal affect on the school bus timetable.

For those students that board and alight from the bus on Macs Reef Rd between Bankers and Newington, you will need to access the school bus from either end of the road closure. The bus will be unable to stop for passengers within the works site.

Proposed changes to Route 834

Route 834 will be extended to service Majura Park (please see route map for route). Route 834 will no longer service the Airport Terminal, however access to the terminal will still be available from Brindabella Business Park via a formed walkway.

There will be no change to the departure times of Route 834, however, minor changes will occur at intermittent stops.

Deane's Bus Lines joins the ComfortDelGro Cabcharge group

Deane's is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached for ComfortDelGro Cabcharge to take over the local Deane's Bus Line Operations, ensuring the bus services will continue to serve the local community.

DTG will continue to operate Government contract routes, school bus and charter services in New South Wales and the ACT, as we have for nearly 25 years. DTG's existing fleet comprises of 97 buses operated out of two depots. DTG is based in Queanbeyan, which is a regional centre in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales adjacent to the ACT.

Queanbeyan has witnessed strong population growth of over 70% in the last 15 years and bus service levels will improve as service standards are improved and population increases in the local area.

The acquisition of Deane's Bus Lines Pty Ltd and Transborder Express – both of which are part of Deane's Transit Group (DTG) – have further increased ComfortDelGro Cabcharge operations in the Australian land transport industry. The company is now Australia's largest Operator of private bus services and has many local bus operations in New South Wales and Victoria.

ComfortDelGro Cabcharge took control of the Bus Operations from Saturday 1 September 2012 and is continuing to operate the existing timetables and service levels.

Changes to Queanbeyan Bus Interchange

The refurbishments to the Crawford Street Lifestyle precinct are now completed and Deane's Buses can now start to service Bays C1, C2 & C3 again.

As of the 30th July 2012, Deane's Transit Group buses for service routes 830, 831, 832, 834, & 838 will re-commence picking up and dropping off passengers at Bay C1 on Crawford Street.

School buses that have been picking up and dropping off at Lowe Street will re-commence picking up and dropping off in Morrisett Street, Bay M3, and this will occur as of the 30th July 2012 also.

For further information please like Deane's Transit Group on Facebook and receive updates on our services.

DBL's 830 Service Cross - Border Trial

In an effort to encourage the ACT and Queanbeyan's travelling public to hop onto buses and reduce congestion on our region's roads, the ACT Government has lifted DBL's pick-up/set-down restrictions in the ACT.

This trial means people can board the DBL 830 service in the ACT and get off in the ACT as well as in Queanbeyan. For example, ACT residents can board at Kingston and get off at Civic or Russell. ACT residents may board a DBL 830 at Kingston, Manuka, Barton (National Circuit) and Russell. Commencing on Monday 4 June 2012, this arrangement is currently in place for DBL's 830 route service only.

For ACT residents who board a DBL 830 service anywhere for travel between Fyshwick and Civic (or vice versa), flat fares of $4.50 (one-way adult cash fare) and $2.50 (pensioners) apply. This is valid 7 days a week.

In a move similar to Australian domestic airlines, Deane's has also introduced off-peak fares for NSW residents who board a DBL 830 service between 9:30am and 4:00pm on weekdays. Off-peak one-way adult cash fares will be capped at $6.00.

For example, if travelling QBN – Civic between 9:30am and 4:00pm:

People boarding at QBN will pay the normal ticket machine fare for travel to Kingston. For travel beyond Kingston, the maximum fare charged will be $6.00 between 9:30am and 4:00pm.

If travelling Civic – QBN between 9:30am and 4:00pm:

People boarding at Civic will pay the normal ticket machine fare for travel up to Fyshwick. For travel beyond Fyshwick, the maximum fare charged will be $6.00 between 9:30am and 4:00pm.

Conditions:

  1. There will be no change to existing concession fares.
  2. These special ACT and NSW Off-peak fares apply to adult cash fares only.
  3. DDC discounts are not applicable to these fares.
  4. Current weekend fares shall remain in place.

Deane's Introduces Free Wi-Fi On Buses

Queanbeyan-based bus and coach operator Deane's Transit Group launched its free wi-fi service at an exclusive briefing session for local politicians and media in Canberra this afternoon.

The introduction of its free wi-fi service, unofficially called DeanesNet, makes the Deane's Transit Group the first operator in southern NSW and Canberra to provide free wi-fi on board its regular route buses.

"Canberra joins the ranks of the capital cities of Europe and the US today with its public transport system now providing their commuters with connectivity to the world while onboard", said Jeremy Wee, General Manager of the Deane's Transit Group. He added, "We're very proud to achieve another 'first', especially one in our part of the State and the ACT through introducing wi-fi. Canberra's public transport needs to move forward - and here is one way of doing it. We recognised this by looking abroad and listening to what our customers wanted."

With facilities onboard a Queanbeyan and a Yass commuter bus at the moment, Mr. Wee announced that the Group's roll-out plan would see wi-fi facilities primarily installed on its Deane's Buslines and Transborder Express commuter fleets first, followed by trials on its coach and school bus fleets. The company is keen to evaluate usage rates which are a key indicator in its wi-fi trial for the region.

Utilising equipment supplied by Frontline Systems Canberra and connectivity through Telstra's 3G network, onboard trials along the Yass-Canberra-Queanbeyan corridor have seen web-surfers experience uninterrupted browsing and decent download speeds for a mobile hotspot. Users have to log into the Deane's wi-fi network and are able to stay connected for 30 minutes and/or download 30mb of data per session.

"We all know about the benefits and opportunities the Internet provides to users. It's educational, it's a productivity tool and it's a powerful method of getting your message out there," Mr Wee said, "and while we can't fix Canberra's peak hour traffic at the moment, we can keep our commuters occupied with our free wi-fi facility!"

In keeping with the afternoon's theme of technology and connectivity, Mr. Wee also highlighted the Group's growing partnership with Telstra and announced a promotion where Deane's and Transborder passengers had the chance to win one smartphone a week during summer.
